E3UDRES2 Ent-r-e-novators. Cooperating for Excellence and Impact in Research & Innovation

E³UDRES² is a European University Alliance - a network of European higher education institutions that have decided to work closely together and collaborate in the fields of research, teaching, innovation and much more.

The E³UDRES² Alliance is exemplary as an engaged and entrepreneurial European university that responds to the social, environmental, and economic challenges of the 21st century and is committed to sustainable development goals. It acts as a living laboratory for the future society in progressive European regions and connects research, innovation, education and service to the community.

The idea of E³UDRES² as a European University was initiated by St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences (Austria) in the fall of 2019 to create an "engaged, European, entrepreneurial University as a driver for smart and sustainable regions.” The future members of the E³UDRES² consortium were then explicitly invited based on their motivation to elaborate and contribute to the alliance.

In the next stage, until 2027, the E³UDRES² network will have 36 associated partners, including the Vidzeme planning region. The main topics in the next period from October 2023 will be "Health, well-being and social inclusion", "Digital solutions and (applied) deep technologies", "Flexible economy and innovation", and "Creative industries for regional identity".

Objective

to introduce a mindset that promotes strong collaboration between education, research, innovation and business. Through different approaches (forward-looking workshops, hackathons, living labs, social science projects), the EUDRES Ent-r-e-innovator addresses regional needs. The ent-r-e-innovator narrows the gap between know-how and transforms from an "I" to a "we" culture.

Activities and results

  1. Co-create a common strategy and agenda that unlocks our potential for excellence in Research and Innovation to accelerate the transformation into a multi-institutional European Research and Innovation Centre for Smart and Sustainable Regions;
  2. Develop best practices and a strategy for pooling research infrastructures, expertise, data and resources and for collaborating with/getting access to other strategic research infrastructures;
  3. Develop structured support programmes aimed at empowering our scientific communities to fully embrace Open Science, Open Innovation, Open Education, Engaged Science and Engaged Education;
  4. Work to achieve a level playing field in terms of institutional strategies and policies for Human Resources for Research, from which we will be able to address more significant challenges, such as brain mobility, new career assessments and joint recruitment strategies;
  5. Develop a structured and integrated framework to seamlessly link all our R&I ecosystems and the E3UDRES2 knowledge triangle of education, research and innovation;
  6. Along our pathway to build a common R&I agenda, be connected and dialogue with peer Alliances and HEIs, HEI associations and advocacy groups, and policy-makers to contribute with evidence-based results to the co-creation of future EEA/ERA work programmes and to inform better policies.
