Valka municipality - clean and tidy environment, rich in forests, qualitative infrastructure for business and dwelling in the Northern Vidzeme. The area of the Valka municipality is 906.8 sq.km and it consists of the town of Valka and the parishes of Ērģeme, Kārķi, Valka, Vijciems and Zvārtava. Population – 10 300. 62% of the whole territory is covered by forests and it favours to the development of forestry and wood processing. A large part of the territory is located within the North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve and the protected landscape area "Ziemeļgauja".
