The Vidzeme Planning Region (hereinafter – VPR) invites you to combine a hike along a circular trail with a digital cognitive game at section 10 of “Forest Trail” near Kauči. A 3 km long circular route has been created in the forest massif adjacent to the river Gauja, where families with children can go on an interactive hike. With the help of the online game, you can get to know the natural, cultural, and historical values of the area.
To participate in the game, you need a smartphone with the “LOQUIZ” app downloaded and mobile data turned on. The game is available for free and can only be played while on the route. Instructions for the starting point of the game can be found at the recreation area by the river Gauja. The route is marked with the sign “Brīvdabis”.
By answering 15 catchy game questions in Latvian or English, participants will learn more about this section of the “Forest Trail”. The hike will lead along the river Gauja through scenic areas, forest roads, and trails until it returns to the starting point. The expected duration of the hike is up to 1 hour. The natural surface of the circular route is also suitable for walks with strollers.
The digitally playable game and the circular route on section 10 of the “Forest Trail” Strenči – Spicu bridge near Kauči VPR have been created as one of two solutions to make the long-distance hiking route more accessible to families with small children. The other solution is the circular trail near Sietiņiezis on section 8 of the “Forest Trail” Caunītes – Valmiera, where four educational outdoor games are located on a 3.8 km long route. There are stairs on one section of the route.
Both circular trails and games were created within the Estonian-Latvian cross-border cooperation program project “Accessible Hiking Trails”, with special consideration for families with children and everyone who prefers shorter and easier hikes.
We invite you to try the new digital game at Kauči, as well as the outdoor games at Sietiņiezis! See you at the “Forest Trail”!
