Objectives

Improve regional policy instruments to create economic opportunities for the production of bio-based building materials and their associated value chain. This objective is planned to be achieved by learning good practices regarding these materials and related support policies, in particular carbon sequestration certification.

Activities

  1. Mapping of regional policy instruments;
  2. Study visits to improve partners’ understanding of regional conditions, including benchmarking, good practice for policy implementation and their challenges;
  3. Preparation of an action plan to maximize the development of effective changes and improvements to policy instruments based on the lessons learned during the projects;
  4. Cross-sectoral learning: stakeholder events, as well as expert meetings and study visits;
  5. Development of a visual learning report with examples of climate-positive building culture and building materials;
  6. Creation of a collective learning environment (Life Lab);
  7. Hackathons and pop-up information/meeting point, accessible to the target audience both in person (in a student-led lab format) and virtually.

Results

  1. Existing (regional) policies and instruments improved, including both the European Green Deal and the future CRCF;
  2. National/regional policies, funding and education/training programmes adapted and improved to promote and improve carbon storage in the construction sector;
  3. Stimulated use of new (regenerative) crops in bio-based and carbon sequestering construction materials.
