Project objectives

To enhance sustainable management of common groundwater resources and associated ecosystems in the transboundary Gauja - Koiva river basin.

Activities

  1. Identification and exchange of data necessary for project implementation.
  2. Development of a joint methodology and its implementation in Gauja - Koiva river basin.
  3. Pilot studies and development of conceptual models (research object - spring mires and spring complex).
  4. Recommendations for better management of transboundary Gauja - Koiva river basin and project result dissemination.

Results

  1. Joint methodology for GDE identification and assessment.
  2. Implementation of methodology and verification in pilot areas in close cooperation between Estonian and Latvian authorities and research institutions.
  3. Increased public awareness of groundwater and associated nature protection.

Budget

Total budget of the project: 411 764,72 EUR

- including ERDF co-financing: 350 000.00 EUR

VPR budget: 37 647.06 EUR

- including ERDF co-financing: 32 000.00 EUR
